Andreas Schlegel is an Explorer, Artist, Teacher, and Programmer.
Currently Andreas is teaching in the Faculty of Media Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. Before joining Lasalle, he worked for new media company Art+Com in Berlin, Germany. With experiences in academic, artistic, and commercial environments for the past 8 years, his focus is on creating interactive and auto-active media installations and objects as well as online and mobile based works.
Andreas' research interest is located in the fields of user interfaces, networked communication and creating audio-visual experiences using computational and generative processes.
He is interested in collecting data, sensing spaces, generating moving objects in realtime, and exploring communication processes in the fields of networks. sojamo is the virtual container of his work, a place for archived information of his personal interests and curiosity.
In 1996, Andreas began his studies in communication design at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart where he graduate in 2000 with a Master of Arts. in 2001 he began his studies in Media Arts and Technology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he received his Master of Science in 2004.
In between the gaps he was co-founding a design bureau in Stuttgart, working as a freelance programmer and designer, living and working in Berlin. in 2007 he moved to Singapore to pass on his knowledge, experience, and passion for media arts to his students.
